To me, designing gardens is site specific, client oriented, crafted in details, and layered with environmental conscientiousness.

My name is Quyen Tran. I’m a landscape designer with a Master of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of British Columbia. The desire to practice landscape design stemmed from my inclination for artistic creation that produces practical solutions. After working for several years and then having children of my own, I decided to create Sabi Landscape.

"Beauty that stems from age. Appreciation of the cycle of life..."

The term sabi comes from Japan, which refers to finding beauty that stems from age; where the appearance of objects and materials that have been well used over time is reflected in their unique patina. I find this perspective of looking at the world–both finely focusing on the subtle details and broadly celebrating the influence of time–an inspiration for my approach to garden making. I want to make gardens that last and age well.

Symbiotic relationship between human and nature

Why does all this matter really? Because, a well designed and built garden will continue to grow and provide delightful seasonal surprises for years to come. This I think is the key to why nature has a restorative power; it’s the continual growth and changes that heal our mind and keep us invested and interested.
